A controversial proposal to build a McDonalds in the middle of residential homes in Hendra has been given the tick of approval by Brisbane City Council.

However, local residents are firmly against what would be an Australian first since no fast food outlet has even been placed on a residential site.

Spokesman for Hendra Locals Against McDonalds Bill Moore told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, "They're talking about 180 car movements an hour, that's a car every 20 seconds going in and out of that place."

"All of the patrons that are leaving the property to get out and turn right, they're going to be facing a queue of traffic that are waiting to get through the traffic lights."

"It just seems absurd," Mr. Moore said.
