"Even Unto Death" song by Audrey Assad: https://youtu.be/uAfp8vg4Jz8
The temptation of Christ is one story everybody is familiar with. Even unsaved people know all about it. It has now in a way become a bygone lesson in the religious world that seems all meaning has been strained out of it. Yet, that moment when Satan came to Jesus in the wilderness was more than just a long ago, historical account. There is much more to it than that.
Jesus stood that test not as some might think. A man weakened from starvation who was bedraggled and limping along, barely able to resist Satan's power. Jesus withstood Satan's three temptations face to face, and from those three responses to him, came forth the Lord's Prayer later on. Jesus did this for every born again believer in the ages to come who will have the same experience as Him. Those three temptations might not seem powerful to the reader in modern day Christianity, as they see it only as an account in long ago antiquity.
Nevertheless, those same three temptations are the same ones Satan tempts believers all over the world with. If Satan cannot tempt people to misuse power for self gain, then he will move them onto the holy city of religion, and set them up on a pinnacle of pride. He will choose out certain people that he has studied for this very special temptation. He will speak to them in God's own words, but add his own seemingly, undetectable words which turn the truth of God into a lie. He will then use them to preach another gospel. After which comes a sure spiritual death to themselves and their listeners.
There are others he sees that have great spiritual ambition and lust for great things in ministry. He offers world wide prominence and power, but there is a price. The end result is the one who gave these counterfeit gifts of power will come back around for payment in the form of sacrifice. The end result is costly.
There are those who do not want the kingdoms of this world or glory from mankind. They are those who love not their lives in this world to the death, because they love the ever lasting life of Jesus more. They cannot be tempted with temporal things. They want the eternal things, the treasures in heaven, the rewards of the endless life. Make sure who you are listening to, what doctrines you are accepting as truth. Keep in the word always which is your source of all truth that will make straight paths for your feet that lead to home in heaven.
