As a recently discovered Jewbian (African/Jewish) and my co-host is a life-long Blasian (African/Taiwanese) we find characterizing people solely on race/color is exhausting. If you didn't feel our sarcasm in this episode's title it will be made extremely clear from our conversation. Everything has always been so black and white literally and figuratively. Race was created to classify us, and to keep us in nice, cute, labeled boxes to oppress some and to exalt others. Your skin color is either a privilege or can be a detriment to your success based on systemic racism. In previous episodes, we discuss how race doesn't tell the complete story about us as much as ethnicity and culture.
Interracial marriage is a fairly new practice in America. It wasn't entirely legal in all 50 states of America until 1967. Our society is becoming more of a "melting pot", and many aren't adjusting well to this. If you notice we are given more options of how we identify on applications and the census. I'm sure they are using this data to further classify us, as well as sell our data to companies and agencies, so they can streamline how to sell us products or make judgements, restrictions or allocate funding based on our ethnicity.
No matter what creation story you believe we all come from the same God, same tadpole or same Big Bang. I really wish we could get away from judging, discriminating people based on their color and put more emphasis on the content of their character. Martin Luther King, Jr. was really on to something with the previous ideal.
Really Not Radio presents a fresh, open-minded podcast hosted by Lee Bishop and baby Stace. Join them WEEKLY as they discuss critical and pressing topics with their own viewpoint in hopes to reach a place of understanding, and on good days; compromise. There's always many sides to a story, and they are exploring them all. Mostly unpopular opinions, always facts and not very politically correct.
