In this episode, I'm joined by Allison McLaughlin where we talk about only children! We discuss the stigma around both being and having an only child, her experiences with her own family, the pressures all moms feel from society, the really positive traits in only children and how every family (no matter how it's made up) is good!
It's true - Advertising is a Thing That Is Good (we promise)! Sean (who works at the amazing agency Civilian) and I discuss our time in the advertising industry and how our careers and opinions on it have changed over time. We talk about the good that advertising can bring into the world, benefit corporations and support industries popping up around them, the (actual) millennial generation, and our personal experiences at our own "Mad Men"-type big agencies.

In this episode I'm joined by the amazing Jennifer Fiorile to talk about travel! We discuss the beautiful garbage of Rome, the challenges of speaking multiple languages, our personal particular comfort in big cities, combating the language barrier, and our own personal experiences with locals helping us in some of our worst moments abroad.
This week I'm joined by Morgan Connacher where we discuss revisiting things from the past. We talk about our shared love of The Gilmore Girls, Anne of Green Gables, the opportunity to re-experience things at different times in your life, the trials and tribulations of baking bread, and the fact that each revisit is bittersweet.
We don't have a new episode this week. Listen to a quick message on why, and how I'm trying to keep looking for the good in the current time we're in.
In this episode, I'm joined by Ian Smith where we discuss our shared love of all things Fantasy, from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings to Game of Thrones and Dungeons & Dragons. We discuss what makes a good hero (as well as a good villain), the beauty of escapism, world building and some of our favorite characters. We also lose some nerd points when we try to remember the name of a fairly important Lord of the Rings character.
In this episode, we talk about Debbie's experience writing for the New York Post and what experiences it has brought her. We discuss writing what you like vs. writing what you know, how to make an interview not boring, how we use editors in everyday life, stepping outside your comfort zone - including Debbie's crazy experience "noodling" in Oklahoma - and her personal connection to none other than Tiger King.
In this episode, we talk about Christine's experience as a working parent, particularly during these weird times we're in now. We discuss an appreciation for teachers, taking time for the memory makers, a "work-life harmony" vs. a "work-life balance" and finding out what works for your family (along with some thoughts on how you might be able to make some adjustments to get it).
This week I'm joined by my husband Matthew Kelly. We talk about our shared love of video games, including some nostalgia over early gaming experiences and connections with characters and stories. We discuss how gaming set Matthew on his current career path, as well as the social nature of some games (and how it has led to us making real IRL friends) and some of our thoughts on how to get started playing games.
I'm Heather Smith and I'm hosting a podcast called Things That Are Good.
Each week, I'll be joined by a guest and we'll talk about something that's good - dogs, friendships, hobbies, movies, ice cream - pretty much anything!
I'll share facts from experts and we'll talk about our own experiences on what makes that thing good.
So if you're anything like me - always on the hunt for something positive in a not-so-positive world - be sure to subscribe to Things That Are Good, coming soon wherever you get your podcasts.
