When someone says the word “evangelism,” what comes to mind? Standing on a street corner and preaching? That’s what my father did. Or what about giving an altar call in front of thousands of people? I’ve done that myself many times. These are forms of evangelism that can be very effective in spreading the Word of God.

But what if you don’t consider yourself an “evangelist?”You are, though! An evangelist is someone who gives others the opportunity to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. And all it requires is living intentionally--living in a particular way that points other people to Jesus. Our daily lives can be an effective way to spread God’s love to those around us.

But how do we live intentionally? One way is to think like a missionary, even if you aren’t one overseas. Missionaries consider everything very carefully in the context of bringing others to Christ. This includes where they live, what jobs they have, who they spend time with, what they do in their free time. 2 Timothy 4:5 calls us to be “sober-minded, endure suffering, (and) do the work of an evangelist”. If we have that mentality, we will live with greater purpose. Even going to the grocery store or to the bank can be an opportunity to spread the Gospel. Our lives will not be boring and ordinary, but rather exciting and full of purpose.
