Learners of the Itumeleng School for intellectually disabled children have been struggling to gain access to identity documents from the Department of Home Affairs in Gauteng. Some of the pupils were not registered at birth. A former pupil was assigned a birth certificate that does not appear on the Home Affair system. Our next guest has raised concerns on how children who are not registered at birth are at risk of being stateless and not have access to rights to education, healthcare and job opportunities…
