Thelma is an author, speaker, and an advocate for a developmentally challenged woman, 'Daisy", the heroine of my book.  Daisy is now in her sixties, and was "put away" at age 12 in an infamous provincial institution for the "feeble-minded" or "mentally retarded" in Orillia, Ontario, Canada - the oldest institution for the "feeble-minded" in Canada.  It was formerly the Asylum for Idiots and Feeble-Minded. "Daisy" was badly treated and claims she was tortured in the institution.
