This Day in Red Wings History

Jamie Macoun Detroit record for nineteen ninety-seven to ninety-eight starts with seven regular-season games and expands to twenty-two playoff games, two goals, and two assists. Detroit went sixteen and six in that playoff run and won the final series against Washington four games to zero.

Travis Hamonic career line lists nine hundred twenty-six National Hockey League games through twenty twenty-five to twenty twenty-six, with twenty-six games in Detroit. This archive note keeps to the documented Detroit totals: two assists, two points, and twenty-nine penalty minutes.

Ivan Boldirev's Detroit record moves from thirty points in thirty-three games to an eighty-three-point All-Star season, then to forty-nine points the year after. This concise archive story stays with what those season lines establish and leaves unsupported explanations aside.

Born August tenth, nineteen sixty-six, Bill McDougall was an undrafted scorer Detroit developed at Adirondack, but received only two NHL games with the Red Wings before delivering fifty-two points in sixteen playoff games for Cape Breton's Calder Cup run — marks that still stand.

Born August ninth, nineteen sixty-four, Brett Hull was passed over twice before Calgary drafted him; decades later he chose Detroit over richer offers at thirty-seven, wore seventeen out of respect for Vladimir Konstantinov, and scored career goal seven hundred en route to a second Stanley Cup.

Born August eighth, nineteen twenty-seven, in Calgary, Alberta, Hall of Fame defender Bill Gadsby joined Detroit late in a twenty-season career and reached the nineteen sixty-four Stanley Cup Final, where Toronto won the seventh game.

Born on this day in 1951, Marcel Dionne became the best young center Detroit ever drafted -- and the best they ever let go. His scoring records still stand; his Stanley Cup shot never came.

Born to be the wildest man ever to skate for Detroit, Howie Young set the penalty-minute record, landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated, and fought his way back from the brink -- all part of one wild Red Wings story.

The famous Bruneteau scored the goal every hockey-history feed still tells. His little brother Eddie was born on this day in 1919 -- and for one playoff spring, he out-scored the legend and led the whole Detroit team in goals.

On July 29, 1925, Ted Lindsay was born in Renfrew, Ontario. A five-foot-eight left wing who played like the biggest, meanest man in the building, 'Terrible Ted' anchored Detroit's famed Production Line alongside Gordie Howe and Sid Abel, won the 1950 scoring title, captained the Red Wings to four Stanley Cups, and started the tradition of skating the Cup around the rink for the fans. In 1957, he helped found the first NHL Players' Association -- and Detroit answered by trading its four-time champion to the last-place Chicago Black Hawks. He came back for one final season at 39, entered the Hall of Fame in 1966, and in 2010 the league renamed the players' MVP award the Ted Lindsay Award.
