This German Island Was Used To Test Weapons

During World War Two, Germany controlled hundreds of territories. But there’s one island they never gave back. It’s called Heligoland, a tiny island in the North Sea between Germany and the UK. Hitler turned it into a secret military base packed with bunkers, tunnels and heavy artillery. After the war, the British tried to erase it. They used it for bombing practice and even dropped one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history.

But it didn’t work. The island survived and today people still live there. You can walk through old Nazi bunkers, explore underground tunnels and see a German flag still flying. It’s one of the only places left where you can step inside a piece of the Third Reich still standing on the map. How do people live there? If they bombed the whole island.
