“THIS IS A WARNING!”
The sermon this Sunday comes directly from the 3D (Devotion) for today. The writer of Hebrews gives us several warnings here. God places warnings all through the Bible. In verse 29 there are three “Do not’s!”…1.Do not trample the Son of God underfoot. 2. Do not count the blood of the covenant a common thing. 3. Do not insult the Spirit of grace. These warnings are relevant for every age.
Stubborn, persistent, rebellious, and deliberate rejection of the “Gospel of Jesus Christ” is dangerous and deadly. If we reject the sacrifice of Christ, there is no other sacrifice for sins. The writer of Hebrews has been teaching us that Jesus has died once and for all. Jesus’ sacrifice and blood fulfill the covenant and brings atonement for those who believe. If we are not freed from sin, there is nothing to deliver us from the fearful expectation of judgment. God is a God of grace but He is also a God of justice. He is a “Living God” who intervenes in the affairs of people. Therefore both His judgment and His mercy are real.
