For quite a few years Snickers, the candy bar, had the slogan, “Snickers really satisfies.” Capitalizing on the fact that its loaded with peanuts, the candy bar claimed that it would satisfy not just a sweet tooth, but a legitimate hunger. When Jesus led his disciples up on a mountain to share with them what we now call the sermon on the mount, He began his sermon by appealing to their need for satisfaction. Nine times Jesus repeats the phrase, “blessed are…” Each time bringing to light another ingredient for a satisfied life. This, Jesus tells his disciples, is the sweet life. This is what really satisfies!
