Our filter distorts: Self-preservation-Self-gratification-Self-image
We chase the ‘good life’ in a way that has been repeatedly proven to harm ourselves and others.
Everyone is born into a world where the normal ‘way’ to a good life is broken.
From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
…and he began to teach them. “Blessed are the poor in spirit…Blessed are those who mourn…Blessed are the meek …Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness …”
“Blessed are the merciful …Blessed are the pure in heart …Blessed are the peacemakers …Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness …”
World’s Way:
Jesus’ Way:
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me.”
Jesus’ way is often the opposite of the world’s way
