Fixing the symptom of a problem but not the cause leads to repeated failure and continued frustration.
We’re born into a world where the normal ‘way’ to a good life is broken.
Self-image:
Self-gratification:
Self-preservation:
Jesus’s way is often the opposite of the world’s way.
Fixing the symptom of a problem but not the cause leads to repeated failure and continued frustration.
We mistake what’s at the heart of the problem:
Human history is the undeniable proof that ‘better’ hasn’t been able to fix what’s broken in the way we chase the ‘good life’
What’s at the heart of our problem?
‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’
“But I say to you that everyone who continues to be angry with his brother or harbors malice (enmity of heart) against him shall be liable to and unable to escape the punishment imposed by the court.”
“You know the next commandment pretty well, too: ‘Don’t go to bed with another’s spouse’.”
“Your heart can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those ogling looks you think nobody notices – they also corrupt.”
“For where your treasure is there your heart will be also.”
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Matthew 6:21&24
Jesus teaches us:
“For from your heart come the evil ideas which lead you to kill, commit adultery, and do other immoral things; to rob, lie, and slander others.”
Jesus teaches us:
Excuse – what’s in heart
Allow God’s love through Jesus to heal our hearts and it will change how we chase the good life.
