Red Tree Crime

This is what murdering your uncle looks like - JCS INSPIRED

Listen Later

The suspect sits across from the detective. His leg bounces. His eyes dart. He has been awake for thirty hours. He has not eaten. He has not slept. He has been rehearsing his story in his head for days. The detective asks a simple question. Where were you last Tuesday? The suspect's answer is too detailed. He has an alibi for every minute. He has a receipt for lunch. He has a witness who will swear he was at work. The detective does not ask for any of it. The suspect offers it anyway. He is lying.

In this JCS-inspired psychological breakdown, I analyze the interrogation of a man who murdered his uncle over a family inheritance. The suspect had been written out of the will. His uncle had discovered that the suspect was stealing from the family business. The suspect saw no way out. He drove to his uncle's house, argued with him on the front porch, and shot him three times with a revolver he had purchased two days earlier. He then drove home, changed his clothes, and returned to work. He told his coworkers he was feeling unwell.

The interrogation lasted six hours. The suspect maintained his innocence for five of them. Then the detective placed a photograph on the table. It was a still image from a neighbor's security camera. The suspect's car was visible in the background. The time stamp matched the time of the murder. The suspect had told the detective he was at work. The suspect asked for a lawyer. The damage was done.

Turn down the lights, put on your headphones, and press play because the uncle who trusted his nephew never saw the bullet coming.
