I recently took down all the affirmations I’ve stuck onto my bathroom mirror over the last year and whew, there’s a lot of them 😂 I share each affirmation that held me close over the past year and the beautiful story of Moses. Like Moses, God chose each of us individually now, based on our obedience is how the story unfolds. I hope one of the affirmations or the story I tell about serving for the first time at church and how pure and innocent the kids were, so quick to love thy neighbor.

Yes, I’m talking to YOU! This message applies to any and everyone because we are all living through the journey of this thing called life. The ebbs, the flows, the highs, the lows, the uncertainty—none of us really knows what’s coming next. But what we do know is that every day we wake up, it means God is not done with us yet.

Yes, it’s been hard. Yes, there were moments when you had no idea how things were going to turn out. And some of us are still in that waiting season, trusting God to show up and show OUT. But we have to keep the faith that He will because my God is not a God who lies. His promises are YES and AMEN. 🙏🏽

Sometimes the answer isn’t in doing more—it’s in getting still enough to hear. Take time for stillness. Listen. Seek. And then ACT.

Because just like every relationship, it takes two to tango. We can pray, ask, seek, and wait on God—but when He speaks and shows us the way, we have to be willing to move.

So yes… I’m talking to YOU. But I’m talking to me too. 🫶🏽

This episode is about seasons, the ones we’re entering, the ones we’re leaving, and the people who may not be meant to come with us into the next one.

I’m learning that you can love people deeply and still love them from a distance. You can appreciate what someone meant to you in one season without forcing them to have a place in your current one. Sometimes growth looks like letting go without anger, resentment, or a big falling out. Sometimes it’s simply accepting that things have changed and choosing peace instead of trying to make something fit where it no longer does.

And in the middle of all that change, I’ve been finding so much beauty in stillness. Sitting with God. Talking to Him. Praying, listening, and allowing myself to be quiet enough to hear what He’s been trying to tell me. There’s something about removing the noise and distractions that makes room for clarity.

Maybe this season isn’t asking you to chase, fix, force, or figure everything out. Maybe it’s asking you to be still, trust God, love people where they are, even if that means from a distance and make room for wherever He’s leading you next. 🤎

Happy 1 Year to THIS IS WHERE I LANDED With Shayla! 🥹🎙️✨

One whole year of landing together, and I’m feeling ALL the feels. In this anniversary episode, I’m taking it back and reminiscing on some of my favorite episodes, conversations, moments, and lessons from this first year of the pod. A year ago, I stepped out on faith and finally did the thing I had been scared to do for so long. Now, looking back at everything this podcast has become, I’m so proud of myself and so thankful to God for guiding me, protecting me, working in me so He can continue working through me.

First, JUSTICE FOR NOLAN WELLS!! Why are there still no answers about what happened to Nolan??? It breaks my heart, and I feel for his mother and his family. I’m also praying for the families of the 8 Black people found hung from trees in the South!! Also, why is Gary, Indiana, still in the dark and without clean water??? I’m sick of it!

God loves a cheerful giver. How can you be a missionary and help your fellow people? Purge that closet, honey, and get rid of those items you’ve been holding onto! Someone would love them and actually use them. Clean out those kitchen cabinets…. you don’t even use all those Tupperware containers, babe 😂

Babes, come sit down because it’s time for a little life catch-up. 😂🤎 I’m checking in from this weird little in-between season where I don’t necessarily know what’s next, I don’t have all the answers, and honestly… I’m learning to be okay with that.

We’re talking about where I am right now, what this season has been teaching me, and what it looks like to keep going when life gets HARD. Because perseverance sounds cute until you actually have to persevere! 😂 But one thing I keep reminding myself is that God did not bring me this far just to bring me this far. Even when I can’t see what He’s doing, I have to trust that He’s doing something.

And of course, we have to talk about the past, the choices, the mistakes, the moments where we probably should’ve known better 😂 because there’s a difference between going backwards and looking back long enough to learn the lesson.

ALSOOOO, your girl finally started a YouTube channel!! 🎥✨ I posted my very first mini vlog over on Shaylamonay, so now you can see a little more of the life behind the mic! We’re trying new things, putting ourselves out there, and continuing to DO THE THING, even when we don’t know exactly where it’s going to lead.

There has still been NO conviction or any real sense of justice in the Nolan Wells case, we still don’t know what happened. Nolan and his family deserve answers. They deserve justice. 

Meanwhile, corruption and what feels like straight-up extortion are happening right in front of our eyes within this administration. Remember kindergarten?! When we were literally taught to share, communicate, and GET ALONG?! 😭 I need the Democrats and Republicans in office to revisit that lesson because WHAAAAT is happening?! 

And this is also your reminder to PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. There is so much misinformation floating around, especially on social media, and something being repeated 50,000 times does not automatically make it true. I always try to do my due diligence, dig deeper, cross-reference information, and bring actual facts to the pod—and I encourage you to do the same. Question things. Look things up. Read beyond the headline.

And while we’re talking about narratives… where are all the transgender athletes supposedly taking over women’s sports? 👀 Because the way that conversation dominated politics versus what we’re actually seeing deserves a conversation of its own. And now somehow the WNBA is being politicized, with these women and this league being pulled into political conversations like pawns instead of simply being allowed to hoop, compete, and grow the game. I’m confused. I’m tired. And I have questions!

Abolish ICE. Yup, I said it.

There is SO much happening, and sometimes it genuinely feels impossible to keep up—but that’s exactly why we have to keep paying attention, keep asking questions, keep researching, and most importantly, keep talking about it.

The final part of my amazing birthday trip recap to San Diego! 🌴✨ And honestly, the only hiccups from the entire trip happened at the airport… what a surprise 😅

Airports have been seeing record numbers of delays and cancellations, and welp… I got to experience it firsthand—delays coming AND going, from TSA all the way to sitting on the plane. Between increased air traffic, aging technology, and the never-ending air traffic control staffing shortage… Houston, we have a problem! ✈️

But somewhere in the middle of all that airport chaos, I had a little full-circle moment.

As a reformed crashout 😂, I had an interaction at the gate that really showed me just how far I’ve come on this healing journey. Because listen… my old attitude and temper?! I would’ve been READY to go off. But your girl likes to travel, and I cannot be ending up on somebody’s no-fly list! 😂 So instead, I had to breathe. Like actually stop, take a few deep breaths, calm myself down, and choose how I wanted to respond.

And guess what? It worked.

It might sound small, but that’s the thing about growth—we’re always looking for these huge, life-changing moments to prove we’ve healed when sometimes the proof is simply in how differently we respond to something that once would’ve completely taken us there.

This episode is raw, honest, and real because we do not give ourselves enough credit for the progress we’ve made throughout our lives. Sometimes you have to stop, look at the old you, look at the you standing here today, and really acknowledge just how far you’ve come.

Because babes… the growth is in the response. 💜

Part 2 of the San Diego birthday recap and baby… we were OUTSIDE! 😂

Day 2 took me to the zoo where I somehow spent almost SIX HOURS and walked SEVEN MILES?! But honestly, I could’ve stayed even longer. The orangutans and elephants were easily my favorites. There was something so peaceful about just sitting there, watching them, admiring them and being completely present in the moment. And somehow, the day got even better ending it at the beach watching the sunset. 🌅

Day 3 was officially BEACH DAYYY! 🌊 So much fun swimming, playing in the waves and just letting the ocean do what the ocean does. It also had me thinking about how much I want more Black people to learn how to swim—not just for safety, but so we can experience the freedom, joy and healing that comes with being in the water. There’s something about the ocean that just does it for me.

Then came the nightlifeeeee 😂 From getting to meet my FAVORITE DJ, Mike O’Leary, to the sweetest surprise from my lady friend that I absolutely was not expecting… San Diego just kept showing out. 🥹

And because we booked a late flight home, we basically got a whole mother day out of our last day! 😂 Riding electric bikes by the marina, having lunch on the water, and grabbing beers at my first lesbian bar, Gossip Grill. 🍻🏳️‍🌈

This trip was fun, beautiful, freeing and full of moments I’ll remember forever. Part 2 is all about being present, trying new things, getting in the water, staying out late, soaking up every last minute and letting yourself LIVE a little.

Because apparently 31-year-old Shayla is outsideeeee. 😂✨

Birthday trip recap, PART ONE! 🎂🌴☀️

We’re up on the roof, down on the balcony, and somehow ending this episode in the closet where I first started recording episodes for the pod 😂 Talk about a full-circle moment!

I’m taking you with me to San Diego to recap the beginning of such a beautiful birthday trip. And y’all already know how I am when I travel… give me a beautiful view, good weather and a cute neighborhood and suddenly I’m on Zillow trying to figure out how I can move there 😂

But seriously, traveling does something to me. There’s something about being in a new place, seeing new things and stepping outside of your normal routine that opens you up to just how BIG and beautiful life really is.

And this trip was extra special because I was taken away and celebrated by a very special lady 🥹💕 which made the experience that much sweeter.

Somewhere between the rooftop, the balcony and that little closet back home, I started thinking about how God continues to make a way for me. I may not always know HOW something is going to happen, but I’ve learned that my job isn’t always to know how… my job is to have faith.

And somehow, someway, He always reminds me that there is so much more life waiting for me to experience.

So come to San Diego with me! 🌴 We’ve got birthday shenanigans, beautiful views, a little romance, a little reflection, and of course… a lot of gems being dropped because this is THIS IS WHERE I LANDED With Shayla. 😂💜
