This Is Why New York State Isn't Truly Progressive

New York State, supposedly one of the most progressive in our nation, has the most conservative approach to divorce and separation. Why is that the case in 2021? New York was one of the first to allow gay and lesbian marriage legally. Why aren’t lawmakers enlightened about the role two parents play in rearing children after divorce?

New shared parenting bills are often introduced to Democratic lawmakers in New York; yet, progressive legislation is often shelved or remains stuck in committees headed by Democratic lawmakers who aren't as pioneering and trailblazing as they proclaim.

The desire to maintain the status quo is strong.
