Publisher's Summary:
Lojong is a powerful Tibetan Buddhist practice created especially for training the mind to work with the challenges of everyday living. It teaches our hearts to soften, reframes our attitude toward difficulty, and allows us to discover a wellspring of inner strength. In this recorded retreat, Pema Chödrön introduces the lojong teachings and explains how we can apply them to any situation in our life - because, as Pema says, "every moment is an opportunity for awakening." In addition, Pema also leads a guided tonglen meditation, a practice aimed at developing courage and cultivating compassion for ourselves and others.

Marketing deja vu
I love Pema and credit her work with the fact that I'm still alive, starting with the recordings, "Fear and Fearlessness" and the profound and practical "Getting Unstuck," encountered at the nadir of my life when only one other exit seemed available. I've accumulated a library of her work since, including her invaluable extended presentations that can take a great deal of time to listen to, and much longer (if ever) to internalize and practice.
I'm afraid we're beginning to witness the result of others' marketing wishes more than additions to what Pema Chodron has already published and recorded. This happened with Marianne Williamson's message as well, so that each new recording seemed to be the same message recorded in a different venue on the tour.
The lojong slogans have been extensively treated by Pema elsewhere (most notably, in "The Compassion Box"). Other teachings here are essentially clips from "True Happiness" and "Boddhisattva Mind." Those extensive examinations permitted an understand of the concepts that brief allusions cannot, so I have to think that some newcomers to the teachings might be quite confused here. Of course, one never knows which repetition will finally "speak" the message in a way that can finally be received, and I myself rarely if ever "get it" the first time.
I probably wouldn't post this mention at all, save that the sound quality of this set is poor. It's brittle and fuzzy, as if recorded live on old magnetic tape equipment, with the stock microphone that came with the recorder. It was very hard for me to stay with the conversation, because I was always battling that raspy sound. The people who put this set out knew about that, of course--and surely some of it could have been engineered out--but they shipped it anyway, because it would sell, on Pema's fame and reputation alone. That wasn't a service to her, and it isn't a service to her listeners and followers.
GREAT TEACHING AND LEARNING INSIGHTS
This is another great learning/inspiration-full 4 cd set of the book from the Extraordinary Pema Chodron. I have many of her CDs(recommend sets where she speaks or reads) and listen to often and repeatedly. I love her voice and her great sense of humor/joy which is there all ways with her stories and easily understood great age old Buddhist Beliefs and Practices so well taught/shared.
