Hundreds gathered on the island of Atiu on Friday, to witness the akamarokura'anga (investiture) of 25-year-old Tupuna Moeroa Ngamaru as Ngamaru Tupuna Ariki

This was followed by another ceremony on Monday with the investiture of Nicholas Paenui Te-iti Nicholls as Rongomatane Ariki.

We cross over now to the Cook Islands to talk with someone who was there for both ceremonies.  Thomas Tarurongo Wynne is from Ngati Ingatu from the village of Areora on his grandfather’s side and Ngati Kaena from the village of Aro’a and Ngati Vakatini from the village of Tupapa on his grandmother’s side.

We find out how significant these cultural practices are to the people of the Cook Islands.
