“In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials.”

A Timely Observation: The Epistle lessons for the Sundays after Easter are drawn from 1 Peter. The “arch-theologian” Johann Gerhard (1582-1637) tells us Peter wrote this letter to scattered and persecuted Christians “to exhort them to persevere steadfastly in this faith and to live a life worthy of that confession and pleasing to God.”
♫ HYMN
Alleluia! Jesus Is Risen Hymn 474, vs 1, 4
1 Alleluia! Jesus is risen!
Trumpets resounding in glorious light!
Splendor, the Lamb, Heaven forever!
Oh, what a miracle God has in sight!
Jesus is risen and we shall arise:
Give God the glory! Alleluia!
4 Weeping, be gone; Sorrow, be silent:
Death put asunder, and Easter is bright.
Cherubim sing: “O grave, be open!”
Clothe us in wonder, adorn us in light.
Jesus is risen and we shall arise:
Give God the glory! Alleluia!
INVOCATION, CONFESSION and PRAYER of GOD’S PEOPLE
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19
Amen.
Our help is in the name of the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth. Psalm 124:8
If You, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O LORD, who could stand?
But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. Psalm 130:3-4
Since we are gathered electronically to hear God’s Word and call upon Him in prayer and praise, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and anyone with us at this time that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. As He has made us His people, let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of Almighty God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of Christ, and saying, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.”
Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen.
Almighty God, merciful Father, in Holy Baptism You declared us to be Your children and gathered us into Your one, holy Church, in which You daily and richly forgive us our sins and grant us new life through Your Spirit. Be in our midst, enliven our faith, and graciously receive our prayer and praise; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
Psalm 148
Alleluia! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights!Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts!Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars!Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!Let them praise the name of the Lord! For he commanded and they were created. And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word!Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars
