Today’s Scripture Promise:
“And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.” (Genesis 28:15).
Today’s Observation:
Have you ever read a Bible promise that clearly had a specific application to a specific person and wondered how you might apply it to you? It’s not that we want to ignore the immediate context of Bible promises such as these, but we must realize that all that is in Scripture is for our learning, and can be applied to our lives if we are open to the blessing.
Take, for example, this promise made to Jacob during the incredible ladder vision from which we get lovely songs. How might you apply it to your life? You may remember that Jacob was not the most honest guy in the world at one point, but he was from a family line to whom the Lord promised many descendants and a special land flowing with milk and honey. Although Jacob and many of his descendants were a bit rough around the edges, whenever they chose to submit their wills to God and keep covenant with Him, God blessed them beyond belief. In this story, the Lord promised that though life would be full of trials, God would manifest heavenly blessings on earth. He promised that He would never leave Jacob’s side, and that He would personally see to it that Jacob would receive all that he was due according to God’s great love.
Do you realize that the Ladder of Blessings upon which angels travel (so to speak) to dole out manifold blessings is Jesus Christ? He is the link between heaven and earth. With His divine, eternal hand He lays firm hold upon the throne of God. With His adopted human hand He firmly embraces faulty human beings. He is the God-Man who bridges the gap between heaven and earth; between temporal and eternal; between humanity and Almighty God. And He has promised to never leave nor forsake us until He comes to give us our eternal reward.
Today’s Marching Orders:
Search for three Bible promises that you never realized could be applied to your life and write a few lines to explain how they apply. Ask God to show you opportunities to share these insights with someone else.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
