This is devotional thought number 40 in our devotional series, God’s Promises are Sure!
“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5).
Meekness is not weakness. Meekness is power under control. Jesus was meek, according to Scripture. Moses, the one who confidently marched into Pharaoh’s audience to deliver pointed messages from God, was meek. And all those who make it through the last days with their characters in tact, will be among the meekest the world has ever known. Meekness is powerful enough to rise up, but humble enough to wait until it is necessary to accomplish its perfect work, if at all.
I chuckle sometimes when I hear people say this earth is not our home; or that we will soon go home to be with God. The reference is always related to entrance into heaven. When Jesus returns, those who have kept the faith, will inherit immortality and go to heaven. Now hear this: the Bible says that we will live in heaven for a thousand years. When the thousand years are finished, the New Jerusalem will descend and God will be with His people there. There will be a new heavens and a new earth. The first of both will be passed away. The Bible says: “...the meek shall inherit the earth; And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” (Psalm 37:11). In the same way God promised Abraham a beautiful land, flowing with milk and honey, He promised us the earth made new. He promised that we would plant, and nobody would steal the harvest. We will build, an nobody will take deed to our property. Our children will lead the former predators as they frolic and enjoy themselves; lambs, lions, bears, and all sorts of animals. If we humbly submit to Jesus Christ, in the end, we will inherit the new earth. The mouth of the Lord has spoken.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
