This is devotional thought number 16 in our devotional series, “The Gospel According to Psalms.”
“But from eternity to eternity the Lord’s faithful love is toward those who fear Him, and His righteousness toward the grandchildren of those who keep His covenant, who remember to observe His precepts.” (Psalm 103:17–18, HCSB).
If God is eternal, and He is, His love and thoughts are eternal too! If His love and thoughts are eternal and love requires an object, you were on His mind from eternity past. Did that all confuse you like a riddle? Let me say it this way: God has always loved you; even before He created the worlds. Was that clear?
Faithfulness and love are among the most wonderful spiritual virtues in Scripture. Godly love does not care whether the object, or person, is lovable. Godly love lavishes itself upon the loved without fail. Godly love is transformational.
Faithfulness continues to express itself without giving up. When times are difficult, or circumstances seem to indicate that there is no use in persisting, faithfulness presses on.
Let’s put these three principles together. Eternal God (Blessed be His name) has always loved you, and even if you make major blunders in life and prove to be unlovable, He is there to transform you by His everlasting love. He is there to love you out of your sin condition. He is there to love you through your trials and difficulties. He is there to love you into victory over every temptation. He is there to love you into the kingdom.
It is our privilege to accept God’s transformational love, and as He changes our lives, keep covenant with Him and remember all He has commanded us. At some point soon, God’s desired outcome will be realized in all of His children. He will return. He will make us immortal. He will give us the eternal inheritance, where there will be no more sin, sickness, pain, or death. Look forward to the day!
This has been the gospel according to Psalms. Live by it!—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
