This is devotional thought number 17 in our devotional series, “The Gospel According to Psalms.”
“The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; And his kingdom ruleth over all.” (Psalm 103:19).
“Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Have you ever prayed these words with passion, wishing they would be true today, and not some time in the future? The world seems to have lost its collective mind, and some of us are just tired of status quo. We want a break! Do you want a break? Are you tired of the economy going up and down based on political announcements? Are you tired of news reports of senseless murders (I know that is redundant)? Do you wish there would indeed be freedom and justice for all, and at all times? I have good news and I have bad news. Which of the two would you like to hear first? OK, I will choose. The bad news is that all I have said will get worse. The status quo will change, but not for the better. We are becoming less thoughtful. We are becoming less humane. We are increasing in violence and malice. The new normal, every so often, will be more crime, brokenness, and difficulties.
However, I would be a terrible devotionalist if I left you with such a bleak outlook. The great news is that Jesus is about to shatter the status quo and change the outlook forever. When He returns (and it will be soon), He will finally establish His eternal kingdom. His rulership will be evident at all times, and in all places in the universe. There will be no more conflicts. There will be no more injustice. Violence and poverty will be a thing of the far distant past. Life will no longer be unpredictable. There’s one thing we all must do to enjoy that reality forever—remain submitted to the King of this universe, and allow Him to manifest His will in and through you until the end of time. God’s will will be done on earth just like it is done in His throne room in the heavens. Soon, everybody will agree that our merciful, loving God is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Soon, we will see the fullness of His righteous kingdom ruling over all, and the plan of salvation through Christ alone will have met its mark. Will you let God accomplish His plan in your life?
This has been the gospel according to Psalms. Live by it!—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
