This is devotional thought number 61 in our devotional series, God’s Promises are Sure!

“And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” (Revelation 2:26–29).

History, unfortunately, repeats itself. The people of God during the era of Thyatira were continuing the struggle of the previous church era, against apostasy. Just as Jezebel was pivotal in leading God’s people into idol worship during the rule of her weak back husband, Ahab’s reign, a false prophetess during Thyatira’ s time operated by the same deceptive principle. Just as this false prophetess and her followers led in apostasy during those times, and the Middle Ages were rife with persecution and false religion, our days are encumbered with the false religion of Rome. Truth and error being mixed in an intoxicating potion of religious complacency and willful ignorance has become commonplace, and God is watching. All whom God has loved and warned against such evil, if we do not turn away and apply our hearts to God’s Word will bring the unmixed wrath of God upon ourselves. Those who hate love, love false doctrine and selfish ease, and serve human paradigms in place of God will get their reward.

As always, there is a message of hope with God. Jesus is coming soon. Do you believe it? The One whom many mocked, some abused, and the Roman power murdered (crucified) at the behest of the professed people of God will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Blessed be His name forever). He will reward His faithful followers; those who overcome in His strength and keep His holy Word till the end. He will share His power, throne, and authority with them, just like His Father shared His power, throne, and authority with Him. He will share His brilliant presence, as the Sun of Righteousness and Bright and Morning Star, as His Father restored His glory, which He shared with Him from before the world was. The mouth of the Lord has spoken.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
