This is devotional thought number 5 in our devotional series, “Stewarding the Heart”
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:5-8).
A mind is a terrible thing to waste. Unfortunately, so many of us have wasted our remarkable thinking abilities on degrading programming, foolish jesting, pride, malice, and feelings of unforgiveness. Some have entertained murderous thoughts, racism, oppression, subversion, and general lawlessness too. WIth so much potential, and so much of that potential frittered away, is there any hope for us? I am so glad you asked.
Our theme text underscores the foundation of all human brain potential. If when we realize our need of Christ, we respond by accepting Him into our lives, we are setting the foundation. Jesus has promised great things if we allow Him to transform our mindset into a reflection of His. Well, what was His mindset? Jesus’ mindset was love. He manifested His love by giving His all for those who were unlovable. He had an others first mentality. He cherished a “Not my will, God, but thine be done…” mentality. He humbled Himself instead of puffing up His chest. He divested Himself of the praise of which He was worthy, to become the Servant of all, for the better good of humanity. He even gave His life so others could live forever.
A mind is indeed a terrible thing to waste; and so many of us have. However, I have great news: God has provided the way for us to overcome the damage done and the time lost. He provides the blessing of love, and those who fully embrace it will have embraced the mindset of Jesus Christ, the full manifestation of divine love. Love, humility, others first, and submission to God’s will are hallmarks of the mindset we may have, if we are willing to allow God to control our lives.
Welcome to the privilege of becoming faithful stewards of your hearts. Manage responsibly, in Jesus’ name.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
