Thoughts in Worship
Message Magazine's Online Devotional for Sabbath, February 27, 2016
This Week’s Devotional Focus is, “Encouraging Psalms.”
“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, Than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” (Psalm 84:10).
Where would you rather be than any other place in the world? Be honest. In what position, whether politically, professionally, academically, or relationally, would you prefer above all else? In what frame of mind would you wish to ever be above all others?
King David gives us a wonderful view of the soul of one who finds more pleasure in God’s presence than can easily be communicated. And the contrasts he underscores are quite telling. He said that he would rather invest one single day in the house of worship than a thousand days, weeks, months, or years anywhere else. Now comes the contrast to those who are paying attention: He would rather be a servant, yea even a slave who loves his master more than freedom, in the house of God, than to be the king of any earthly domain (Exodus 21:5-6).
With churches on almost every corner in many of the world’s great metroplexes and cottage worship centers even in many of the rural areas of the world, how many of us avail ourselves of the privilege of being in God’s presence there? With the many opportunities we have as we are awakened by God everyday, to invest a thoughtful hour contemplating His goodness and meditating upon His holy Word, how many of us rush off into the uncharted territory of our daily activities instead of worshipping Him first? Would we rather have one day in God’s presence that any other earthly honor?
Let’s pray that being in God’s presence will be so desirable and impactful on our lives that we will stop at nothing to come into close contact with Him daily, and that our lives will honor Him to the point of changing the world around us, one person at a time.
