This is devotional thought number 45 in our devotional series, “Stewarding the Heart.”

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.” (Psalms 19:1-3)

“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.” (Psalms 53:1).

Although nature as we know it wears the blight of sin, it still speaks of an intelligent, orderly and loving God. It is what we can see. We can handle it day by day. If we look closely, we will definitely realize that there is a God in heaven that loves those that dwell upon the earth. Paul said, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” (Romans 1:20).

It is shameful that so-called scientists and philosophers have attributed the order of the universe to chance, a coincidental arrangement of circumstances. If they would just allow the Spirit of God to soften their hearts and fill in the gaps of their understanding, they too would see that the vast expanse of the universe, with all of its intricate laws and details, must be the work of God. More fascinating than nature itself is that the Lord manages this universe, yet is still interested in human beings. We are but a small speck in the scheme of things, but we are the object of God’s love and care.

I thank the Lord that He has given us a window into knowing Him. I thank Him all the more that He revealed Himself to us through His Son; the perfect representative of heaven. If nature glorifies God just by existing, how much more should we, for whom Christ gave His life?
