“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.” (Matthew 13:44).
He searched for you. Will you not now search for Him?
Can you remember when you were hopelessly lost without Christ? Maybe you were addicted to thrills, people’s praise, drugs, or shedding innocent blood. Maybe you valued money more than your family or even your health. When different life trials came you did not know where to go. Friends were unreliable. Family tried their best to help, but it just wasn't good enough. Then one day it was like the lights of consciousness came on. You had clarity of thought and knew you could not live another day without God being in control of your life. It was not by accident that this light came on. The Lord found you. You were lost like the sheep, coin, prodigal son, and elder brother in the parable of Luke 15. And when Jesus found you, all hopeless with your life in a mess like the baby of Ezekiel 16, He had a celebration because He found His precious son; His precious daughter. You were lost; now you’re found. You were dead in tresspasses and sins; you are now alive unto righteousness.
Where were you when God found you? Was it a rum bar, night club, crack house, prison cell, sexual liaison, a church pew? Was it in a squad car, hospital bed, all alone in your home, at work, at play? No matter. The blessing is that God found you.
Here’s the problem for many of us, however: not long after God finds us and delivers us from sin, we lose our determination to search for Him. Have you sold all in order to mine the treasures of God? One of the first Scriptures I memorized after the Lord found me was written by the wisest man who ever lived. He said of wisdom: “If thou seekest her as silver, And searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.” (Proverbs 2:4–5). If you compare Proverbs 8 and 1 Corinthians 1:30-31, you will find that Jesus is the essence of wisdom.
I encourage you to continually seek and find the immeasurable riches of God’s wisdom. Never be satisfied with a surface experience with God. There are valuable treasures in Him with which only the diligent seekers will be rewarded. “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” (Matthew 13:45–46). “Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, Call ye upon him while he is near:” (Isaiah 55:6).—L.
