This is devotional thought number 67 in our devotional series, “Stewarding the Heart.”

“Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.” (Micah 2:1)

Sometimes when I listen to the news I wonder what this world is coming to. I know the prophecies of the last days are clear. We have been told that people’s hearts will wax cold. We have seen in scripture that during the time of Noah, people thought only evil continually. Jesus said that these days would be just like the days preceding the flood. Even with all of this forewarning, some of the things going on in our world are astonishing.

The media now glamorizes sins that were shameful fifty years ago. Entire sitcoms and movies have been written with these glamorized sins as the theme. Blockbuster hits are growing by leaps and bounds with graphic material as the enticing element. I wonder what lude behavior has not yet been popularized in our society. It almost seems that it cannot get any worse.

There are many who dream up ways to flaunt evil. Many are enticed by capitalism to devise twisted plots and write them in books, and direct movies with scenes that are beyond offensive. Instead of meditating on the word of God, they meditate on different ways to provoke the public. Is there any hope?

The Lord has always taken into account the level of wickedness He would allow before He did something drastic in order to correct the issues, as in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Lord is no less in touch with our woes today than in those days. One day soon, He will have allowed sin to run its final course, and put an end to it. He will rise from His throne as the conquering King who will keep the door of His tender mercy ajar no longer. Sin and suffering will cease. The pure pulses of righteousness will move by waves over the entire universe, and order will be restored. He that said He would return will at last set His faithful ones free. Are you ready? Are you ready for Jesus to come? I certainly am. Pray that we will all be found faithful.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4).

Welcome to the privilege of becoming faithful stewards of your hearts. Manage responsibly, in Jesus’ name.—L. David Harris (http://bit.ly/BQuotable)
