“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17).
Jesus must have had some beautiful feet! His feet, all dusty from traversing the roads as He carried the message of His Father’s love, were absolutely fabulous. How do I know? The Bible says so. Oh, so you want me to prove it? “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; That bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; That saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” (Isaiah 52:7). Here it is, in black and white. Jesus had beautiful feet. Don’t say I never told you. The question is: Do you want beautiful feet too?
I am a big fan of Scripture (that is an understatement). As such, I have been studying, memorizing, sharing, writing about it’s wondrous truths since about 1996, when I first began to appreciate it. I am currently on day 90 day reading through of all 66 books of the Bible. I must say it’s rather enjoyable.
What I have found over the years is that when my friends, associates, and random people the Lord leads me to are having crises in faith, it’s because the principles of Scripture are not top priority to them. I do not mean they don’t know Scripture. Some of them know tons of verses. However, none place a high enough premium on Scripture to make it applicable to their lives. They don’t prayerfully and consistently ask YHWH to meet with them within its pages. They don’t always accept truths that make little sense to them and often wait for God to prove stuff as though He’s on trial. I could go on, but you get the picture.
Our theme text underscores the incredible blessing Scripture is. Godly, saving faith comes by hearing (listening to, imbibing, and living by) the Word of God. The primary message of Scripture, whether Old or New Testaments, is the great news of salvation through Christ alone. Full stop. Yes, there are many facets of this truth, each tailor fit for the era in which the readers live, but brass tacks - the entire body of Scripture is given so we can be saved. Unfortunately, some who are unwilling to submit to the Spirit’s guidance in Holy Writ, miss the point completely. Others are too proud to surrender their good works and abilities to impress unwary observers. The outcome? They get to keep their own righteousness, which leads only to eternal death, instead of receiving the righteousness of Christ by faith. Still others make excuses when times are difficult and refuse to give their burdens and worries to the only One who can actually help.
My hope for you today, is that you will take the Words of Scripture seriously and meet King Jesus there. I hope you will find truth so pleasing, even when it reveals your true “selves,” that it will improve the beauty of your feet by leaps and bounds (pun very much intended). Join Jesus and His many friends and followers in sharing the great news of salvation with everyone the Lord honors to cross your path. Ask Him how to use your unique spiritual gifts and personality traits to help somebody today, tomorrow, and every day you live beyond. Publish those great tidings that the Lord in Zion still reigns even though the world seems to have lost its collective mind. Rescue the perishing. Don’t be selfish. Tell them about Jesus so they can be saved.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
