“But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” (Hebrews 1:8–9).

I hate you! These are three words most of us never wish to hear. Certainly, they’re words we should only use sparingly. Yet, the Bible says Jesus, the honored Son of God, hated...iniquity. Get the picture?

There’s no doubt Jesus personifies love. He is the manifest image of the Father who is love. The Father loved you so much that He gave His Son. If you believe in and live by the principles of His son, you will inherit eternal life. Jesus loves righteousness. He loves holiness. He loves peace. I could write long list of Jesus’ loves.

Could I also write a list of what Jesus hates? Well, I don’t have to. He already has. Here’s what the Bible says: “These six things doth the Lord hate: Yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, Feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, And he that soweth discord among brethren. My son, keep thy father’s commandment, And forsake not the law of thy mother:” (Proverbs 6:16–20). How’s that for a list? I know it may have difficult for some to read that God, “hates” anything, but now you see that His perfect hatred is against evil.

Could it be that our loving King of Righteousness wants to instill a hatred for sin within our hearts? Yes. In fact, God bragged on His servant Job who hated evil. He gave humanity a deep-seated ill-will and hostility against sin in Eden, but many of us have fallen in love with it again.

Ask God to give you love for righteousness today and perfect hatred for sin. When you possess this heavenly balance, you will reflect the image of Jesus, the express image of our heavenly Father.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
