This is devotional thought number 12 in our devotional series titled, “The Faith I Live By”

“But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.” (Psalms 68:3).

It is a blessing to live before a holy God with a clear conscience. How many times have you known God’s will in a particular situation and gone against it? In those instances, did God simply allow you to continue on your course or did He let you know that His will was otherwise? Those who continue to follow self rather than God eventually lose their ability to hear His voice, and at some point, He ceases to call. It is very difficult to get to that point, however, it should not be taken for granted that God will always be available. “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” (Isaiah 55:6). “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” (Genesis 6:3). This principle is clearly seen in the story of Noah. The Lord always has a probationary period set for humankind. In some cases He reveals it, and in others He does not.

David wrote about the final vindication of God’s character and cause. Often it seemed like the wicked were allowed to flourish. It seemed as though God would let wickedness overcome good. In David’s praise to God, he looked forward to the day when God would settle all opposition. “Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him. As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God: yea, let them exceedingly rejoice. Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.” (Psalms 68:1-4).

One day soon, we will fully see the justice of God. He will vanquish His enemies. For many years He called to His enemies, yet they ignored and rejected Him. He gave His life for them that they might have eternal life, but they would not be convinced of their need. He fought for them, but they fought against Him in return. Soon they will see the cost of their error. He is not willing that anyone loses their souls, but some are resolute to be lost. Pray that we will choose to accept Jesus’ righteousness. It is in true love and faith in God that we are made glad.

By God’s grace, this is the faith I live by, let this be the same for you, in Jesus’ name.—L. David Harris (http://bit.ly/BQuotable)
