This is devotional thought number 18 in our devotional series titled, “The Faith I Live By”

“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:” (Colossians 2:6).

Nothing has changed. No-thing has changed! The same way you received Christ into your life still stands as the way to keep Him in your life—by faith. Nobody staged a bait and switch. Nobody is trying to upsell you on a too good to be true, cosmic deal. No. In the same way we receive Jesus into our lives, to evict self and sin, we continue to walk in the power of His victory.

All too often, people get confused and lose the simplicity of their journey with God. When we heard the sweet entreaties of the Holy Spirit to abandon our sinful ways, overcome long-standing addictions and those emotional hang ups that limited our spiritual growth potential, we simply trusted the SPirit’s guidance and surrendered. Somehow, some way, an enemy crept in, however. He began to make us believe we could take off our spiritual training wheels and rely on our own skills to maintain our holiness. Even though we continue to fall, skin our knees, and scrape our elbows, we figure we can just try harder, and we will miraculously get better. The problem is, the flesh never gets better. We always need the Holy Spirit to transform us into new creatures; and this only happens by faith. This holy transformation is 100% linked to us allowing God’s power to flow into our lives so we can continue to walk on the pathway Jesus forged ahead of us.

So, if you once surrendered yourself to God, tasted the sweet victory that comes through Christ, but have lost steam, now is the time to return to the simplicity of faith. Return to surrendering your will to God in the mornings. Return to asking Him to make you more loving, obedient, and kind. Return to yielding to His roadmap when you are tempted to veer off the road due to doubts, self righteousness, lusts, and self reliance. Faith connects us to the victory that overcomes the world. Nothing has changed.

By God’s grace, this is the faith I live by, let this be the same for you, in Jesus’ name.—L. David Harris (http://bit.ly/BQuotable)
