This is devotional thought number 19 in our devotional series titled, “The Faith I Live By”
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (1 John 5:4).
This world, as it is now, is not our home! It is full of lust, pride, and envy. It’s a dog-eat-dog society. When we make one step forward, we can expect to have to take two steps back. Life is difficult, and then we die. It’s just the way life goes.
Now, before you become too discouraged by this grim outlook on life, let me direct your attention to today’s theme passage. It says that whoever is God’s offspring overcomes the world; then it outlines the path to victory. As the song writer penned, “Faith is the victory that overcomes the world.”
In light of this, we have to ask ourselves two questions: First, “Am I God’s offspring?” Second, “Do I have victorious faith?” If we can reasonably answer these questions in the affirmative, we are on the path to absolute power to overcome all the evil that is in the world.
Don’t get me wrong; this world is littered with trials and tragedy. The trials do not mysteriously disappear in a wafting vapor when we become God’s children, by faith. If fact, the world’s opposition increases. However, we can know, without a doubt, that God will keep His promise. He will make us overcomers. He will answer the faith call of our souls and give us ultimate victory. As a bonus, He will give us the ability to cope with all we must go through as we make our pilgrimage through this life, and then create a new earth for us to inherit. We get a do over! We get to experience things as God intended from before there was a beginning. Thank God! God will make a new heaven and a new earth wherein dwells righteousness.
Today’s your big day! Make certain you are God’s (spiritual) offspring by meditating upon John 3-8 and Romans 8. Then accept the power God gives through transformational faith. Give thanks.
By God’s grace, this is the faith I live by, let this be the same for you, in Jesus’ name.—L. David Harris (http://bit.ly/BQuotable)
