This is devotional thought number 37 in our devotional series titled, “The Gospel According to Paul.”

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Love is a word misused, and misunderstood by most of those who claim to experience it. It is the overarching principle that rules the universe. You have heard it said “love makes the world go ‘round,” and it’s true. If it were not for love, all of us would be doomed to eternal loss.
Often, people say they love their cars, homes, and even clothes. Is this the way that God intended for us to understand it? Can we say with the same zeal that we love inanimate soul-less objects, as we love our family members? Can we say that we love life-less vehicles in the same way that God loves sinners? Certainly, misuse of this term does not capture the life-giving principle of godly love. God’s love is so incredible that those who were destined for eternal death can now have a right to the tree of life. God’s love is far above any affinity we have toward things we enjoy. God’s love is redemptive. God’s love supports life. God’s love lasts forever.
I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, are you?—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
