“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).
People often make split-second decisions that have long-term effects. You may have read of individuals who happened to be in the right place at the right time, purchased trinkets for a few dollars, and later found that they were precious pieces worth millions of dollars. In a split-second, they made a simple decision with huge implications.
In other cases, people have made decisions to leave children unattended in vehicles or homes for just moments, only to return to see them badly burned or otherwise harmed. These circumstances could have been avoided if the responsible people simply chose differently. Now the children must exist with the horror of what occurred, indelibly etched into their consciousness.
There are many more examples of simple decisions having great consequences. One of the most underestimated decisions people make is the choice to sin. When we deliberately sin, we drive a wedge between ourselves and God (Isaiah 59:2). It is not because God stops loving us that the separation exists. Rather, it is because God is so holy that wickedness cannot dwell in the same space with Him but for so long.
The consequence of sin is eternal death. Those who cherish sin, without repentance, are on the road to destruction. As you navigate the roads of your day, remember that every action and inaction on your part has eternal consequences. The Lord is able to deliver us all from the bondage of sin. Today is the best day to make the decision to allow Him that honor. By doing so, you accept the blessing of eternal life.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
