This is devotional thought number 39 in our devotional series titled, “The Gospel According to Paul.”

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23).
One day I read a bumper sticker that said, “Know God, know peace. No God, no peace.” This short saying is full of truth. Those who are in an intimate relationship with God are well acquainted with the peace that comes from a clear conscience. Those who love the Lord and His law do not allow any tumult to cause them to break their relationship with Him. Those who do not have the Lord in their lives cannot experience true peace.
True peace is the absence of conflict between our souls and God’s revealed will. It is the reconciliation of sinners to a Holy God, accepting the righteousness of Jesus as payment for our transgressions. When we trust the Lord with everything, no matter what, and keep our minds on Him, calm in the midst of a storm comes over us. Peace is like standing in the center of a raging tornado, and not being taken up in the rubble because you are anchored so deeply into the ground and protected that the wind cannot move you. Peace is like smelling the scents of lilies, and roses in a grimy subway station. Peace is like standing in the midst of a burning furnace, and only the circumstances that had you bound are burned, and you come out as pure as fine gold.
God’s peace gives us the privilege of being one with Him, and knowing that He always has our best interest at heart.
I’m not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, are you?—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
