This is devotional thought number 48 in our devotional series titled, “The Faith I Live By”

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be meat in mine house, And prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, If I will not open you the windows of heaven, And pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10).

Have you ever been robbed before? When I ask you this, I am asking not if someone was slick and quietly took something from you while you were not looking. I am talking about someone coming to you with some kind of force multiplier (gun, knife, bat, intimidation, etc.) and demanding your valuables, or else? Has that ever happened to you? How did it make you feel? What did you do? If it has never happened to you, praise the Lord! How do you think you’d feel if a random assailant figured he was more worthy to have your stuff than you?

I want to keep today’s thought even simpler than yesterday's, to drive the point home. Frankly, there are far too many persons withholding God’s money. That sounds bad, doesn’t it? Well, here’s how it really should sound: Far too many are venturing into the throne room of God and brandishing weapons, boldly robbing Him in broad daylight. Is that imagery offensive to you? It should be. When we choose to spend the holy tenth of our increase, and a joyful offering from God’s treasury, we are committing strong armed robbery against the King of the universe.

If you find yourself in this position, whatever the cause, please know that you serve a merciful God, who accepts honest confession and repentance. He is ready, willing, and able to forgive you. However, your honest repentance requires making amends. Commit today that you will tally the tithe and offering you have withheld, pray for guidance and strength, and inasmuch as it is possible, return and give the sum into the Lord’s treasury. It is the right thing to do. Afterall, the Lord has given us all the power to get the resources from which the tithe and offerings come anyway. He has given us breath in our bodies, minds that work, and the ability to live according to His Word. Returning honestly from our increase is a simple gesture that demonstrates our love, trust, and commitment to God, and His work. How will you respond to His call to make amends, if this applies to you?

By God’s grace, this is the faith I live by, let this be the same for you, in Jesus’ name.—L. David Harris (http://bit.ly/BQuotable)
