This is devotional thought number 63 in our devotional series titled, “The Faith I Live By”

“(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)” (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Nearly 100% of my daily work and much of my ministry work is done through the World WIde Web. One feature some digital marketers use to get you to part with your hard earned money is scarcity (AKA urgency) timers. These strategically placed countdown clocks show that the “opportunity of a lifetime” will not always be available. More than that, they increase interest by showing you exactly when they propose to end the special offers, most times never to be offered again. These are effective because they work. People fear they will miss out on something special, and sometimes it’s true.

One major difference between God’s approach and these savvy marketers’ approach is that nobody knows when God’s special mercy countdown will conclude. Yes, He is abundant in mercy, goodness, and truth, but one never knows how long supplies will last. The truth is that His urgency timers are not gimmicks to trick you into accepting something that may prove to be of no value to you. When God makes an urgent appeal for you to repent and surrender your will to Him, He is doing so because He loves you. He knows that delayed responses to His entreaties are potentially deadly; not because He’s looking for someone to punish, but because He knows old sin habits die hard. The more we trifle with sin, is the more we become cozy with it and risk turning off our ears to the Spirit’s calls forever.

Beginning today, why not make it a habit to answer all of God’s calls in the affirmative? If we, by God’s grace create a firm habit of responding to God favorably, the easier it will become. Will you ask God to teach you how urgent it is to say yes to Him, every single time? Today is your day. Now is your time. It’s urgent.

By God’s grace, this is the faith I live by, let this be the same for you, in Jesus’ name.—L. David Harris (http://bit.ly/BQuotable)
