This is devotional thought number 67 in our devotional series titled, “The Faith I Live By”
“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14).
Wake up! Get up! Rise up! Keep your eyes on the prize! #staywoke
There is a lot vying for our attention these days. Much of it is very important, and chips away at the fabric of our society. Sometimes I wonder if “Liberty and justice for all” is a reality or an ideal. Whether “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” is available in the same measure to all who seek them. You be the judge. While I am not a pie in the sky kind of guy; neither am I one who chooses to bury my head in the sand, I still realize our civic and societal relations will continue to diminish. This does not mean that we should sit on our hands. No! The Bible teaches that we must do our best to engender success for all in society. This means that we must also speak up and work for the downtrodden. However, the question that remains for all conscious people, is “What is the end game?” Do we fight for justice and against censorship, so we can tick the box on our great deeds list that enjoins our energy for things that matter? Fully conscious people (note that qualifier) are not satisfied with 40 acres and a mule. Fully conscious people recognize that while government, society, and the masses of individuals who occupy them are all responsible to the greater good, this life, as it is now, is not the end of the story. Fully conscious people help others transcend this life, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and not vain philosophy
Do you believe that Jesus (or Yehoshua), the Messiah died and rose again, as recorded in the Scriptures? If you do, you do so unto salvation. Genuine believers do so until we are transformed by the One in whom we believe. This is no mere assent to a system of teachings. It goes beyond a cerebral exercise. This belief ushers us into holy mind renewal. Believers learn to think just like Jesus did when He lived among us. It is these dear ones who've disciplined ourselves to follow God’s guidance even through difficult times!
What happens if true believers die while we await the coming of Jesus? As we have said many times recently, our breath goes back to the Life Giver; our thoughts cease, and our bodies decompose until we return to the dust, from where we came until Jesus returns. Then, those who sleep in the faith of Jesus will awake just like He did. SInce Christ is risen, resurrection unto immortal life is guaranteed. Eventually, there will be no more, death, crying, or pain; that will be old, tired news. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” (1 John 3:1–3).
By God’s grace, this is the faith I live by; let this be the same for you, in Jesus’ name.—L. David Harris (http://bit.ly/BQuotable)
