This is devotional thought number six in our devotional series, “Essentials of Faith.” Our subject is “God’s Love for Me.”

Here’s the question for consideration: How long has Jesus promised to stay right by my side?

“Can a woman forget her sucking child, That she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yea, they may forget, Yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; Thy walls are continually before me.” (Isaiah 49:15–16).

What imagery! Imagine a nursing mother feeding her baby every two to three hours. Whenever Baby cries and needs to cuddle, mommy is there. Whenever Baby cries and needs to feed, mommy is there. Can she forget the love of her womb whom she carried for many months and has become one with?

It’s near impossible for most mothers to completely abandon their children. Obviously, there are anomalies and dysfunctions that present as exceptions to this reality, but it’s against nature. Yet, the Lord says that this nearly inseparable bond, is not even worthy to be compared to the bond He has with us. He created us, not to leave or forsake us. He redeemed us from sin with the life of His Son, not to abandon us to be abused at the devil’s will. As near as your fingerprints are to your hand, are you to your God’s heart.

Many times, people view God as a distant tyrant, when in fact He has promised to be with us every step along our journey empowering us to live successful, holy lives. If you don’t get anything else from this reminder today, do embrace the blessing that God loves to be around you. He loves to have your attention and give you His. He loves to bless you with His Precious Holy Spirit. He loves giving you every good and perfect gift.
