This is devotional thought number 34 in our devotional series, “Essentials of Faith.” Our subject is: Faith & Acceptance
Here’s the question for consideration: What is God’s will for me?
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” (Ephesians 1:3–7).
God knows everything and I don’t blame Him. He knows that He loves all of us. He knows that He has made provision to give all of us every spiritual blessing. He knows that He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should repent of our sins and be saved. Unfortunately, He also knows all who will refuse to be accepted into the family of God through Jesus Christ. He knows who will choose not to accept the redemption He paid to get them off spiritual death row. He knows all who will refuse forgiveness of their sins. He knows all who will disregard the lofty provisions He offers according to the riches of His grace. Therefore, although He predestinated (i.e. planned for) all to be saved, He foreknew those who’d steadfastly refuse. God knows everything and I don’t blame Him for it.
What is God’s will for me? God wants me to accept His gift of salvation so I can live eternally with Him. His will is for me to experience the bounties of right relationship with Him. God takes pleasure in saving people from earthly ruin and eternal loss. There’s only one problem: He cannot force any of us to embrace His lofty desires for us. He knows who will be saved and who will be lost, but He does not force us either way. So, why don’t you choose to be saved and let Him know His hard work paid off in your case? And, please don’t blame Him for those who choose to be lost. That is not His will for them or you.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
