This is devotional thought number 24 in our devotional series titled, “Sing Unto the Lord a New Song: Meditations From the Book of Psalms.”

“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my meat day and night, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: For I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him For the help of his countenance.” (Psalm 42:1–5).

Does your soul thirst for God? I mean, when you consider the complexities of this life, and the prospects of the better life when Jesus returns, does your hunger and thirst for righteousness increase? There are times in each of our lives when we will yearn for holiness, relief from the stress of daily living, and deliverance from the plans of evil people. We will search for a reprieve and only find it in Christ. We will recall brighter days that have since been swallowed up as distant memories. However, God has never left His people to flounder in despair. If we persist in prayer and determine to continue this journey until our breakthrough comes, He will give us hope. We may have to encourage ourselves from time to time. We may need the prayers and encouraging words from friends who understand the struggle. We may need the still, small voice of God whispering into our consciousness, that He has neither left nor forsaken us. Just know that He will give us exactly what we need, when we need, if we don’t give up.

Now is your chance; if you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, direct all of the faith and hope you can muster, into shameless praise. Lift up your heart and voice, and praise the Lord! He has not forsaken you. He will not forget any of His children who continue along the paths of righteousness. The going will get tough. Things will not always be peachy keen on the surface, but now is not the time to give up. Praise God in the good times, and in the difficult times. Praise Him when things are going your way, and when you are confused about life. Praise the Lord for your future glory among the heavenly angels and your fellow saints. Praise Him for being kind enough to intervene in your life when you need Him most. Hope thou in God and praise Him for who He is.

Sing unto the Lord a new song. Celebrate your future glory with a right now praise.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
