Today’s Scripture Focus: Luke 11:5-13

We are focusing on sin recovery principle number seven of 12: “We submit to God and ask Him to remove our deficiencies.”

Unfortunately, many of us have become hardened through disappointments. When we were children, some of our fathers consistently fell short of their duties and our expectations. Perhaps we developed distrust that reached such a high level that we either fear or refuse to rely on others for help. I have seen people with lovely homes and vehicles with bare food cupboards several times. And I am talking about individuals who are employed. This is not to mention the unemployed. Why? Is it that their friends and relatives are selfish? Perhaps this is the case sometimes. But, frankly, the times I have seen this, it was due to the pride, embarrassment, and fear of rejection that caused these dear ones to neglect to seek the help of those who would probably have loved to help them most.

What if we drag this perspective into our relationship with God? What if we are having difficulties with our marriage and we choose not to pray about it and continue saving face as though all is well? What if we are addicted to a sin that is eating us alive and the guilt we feel is overwhelming us? What if we pray sporadic prayers? What if we need a job, a place to live, new friends, etc., and we neglect to continue asking God to come to our aid? What then? Will we receive what we need? What if we wish for holiness, but some sin habit controls our thoughts? Should we ask God for help in a fit of anxious desire and stop asking, or should we continue asking, seeking, and knocking on heaven’s doors for God’s divine aid?

Although many of us have suffered bitter disappointments, we must not superimpose those feelings upon our relationship with God. We must not become so weary that we cease praying. We must learn and cling to the promises of Scripture and claim them through persistent praying and faith in God. Even some parents who might otherwise say no to children who have a need or desire to give in to them when they ask continually. How much more will our heavenly Father give us the Spirit and every other spiritual blessing if we persist in prayer? Do not give up. Continue asking, seeking, and knocking. God is compassionate, faithful, benevolent, and merciful. Give Him a chance to manifest His loving provisions in your life so you can be a blessing to others.—L.
