This is devotional thought number 40 in our devotional series, “Essentials of Faith.” Our subject is: The New Me
Here’s the question for consideration: Where will my greatest affections be when I am truly converted?
“I delight to do thy will, O my God: Yea, thy law is within my heart.” (Psalm 40:8).
We are going to keep it really simple today. I know it was tough for some of you yesterday as we uncovered the fact that so many feign good works and wouldn’t know or love God more than a man on the moon. Today will be great. You’ll see. The key is in the answers to these questions:
Do you love or loathe to do God’s will? Of whom do you love to speak? Is God’s praise continually in your mouth. When you think of the goodness of God and what He’s done for you, does your heart well up with thanksgiving? Do you find that the evil you used to love, you now despise? Would you rather be deprived of momentary pleasure than offend your God? Do you enjoy speaking to God daily? Do you find light in the Word of God? How is it between you and others? Are you finding it easier to forgive people who have done you dirty? Does your heart and help go out to those who need it most? Do you continually go to God and seek His face for companionship, guidance, forgiveness, and cleansing? Do you have a love for the truth?
When the Spirit of God fills your life to overflowing, you take pleasure in doing His will. You recognize that you are unworthy of all of His benefits, know you cannot earn your way into the kingdom, and wouldn’t trade your new life for any momentary pleasure even when the times get rough. More than that, you love the Lord. You respect Him. You have no desire to misrepresent Him. If this is you, or you strive daily for this ideal, congratulations. Welcome to the family of God.—L.
