This is devotional thought number 27 in our devotional series titled, “Sing Unto the Lord a New Song: Meditations From the Book of Psalms.”

“For the music director; to be accompanied by stringed instruments; a psalm, a song. May God show us his favor and bless us! May he smile on us! (Selah) Then those living on earth will know what you are like; all nations will know how you deliver your people. Let the nations thank you, O God! Let all the nations thank you! Let foreigners rejoice and celebrate! For you execute justice among the nations, and govern the people living on earth. (Selah) Let the nations thank you, O God! Let all the nations thank you! The earth yields its crops. May God, our God, bless us! May God bless us! Then all the ends of the earth will give him the honor he deserves.” (Psalm 67, NET).

Are you looking forward to the day that fulfils the Lord’s prayer, “Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven”? I am.

Today’s theme passage is one that you keep cued up in your mind for when the going gets rough. When some government officials seemed to have lost their minds, gas prices have gone through the roof, or the economy is unstable despite favorable forecasts, this is the song you sing. We want God to show His favor. We want all nations to know that our God cares. We want all people to thank God for His mercy, hope, and blessings. We want those who do not yet know Him to get to know and celebrate Him. We want God’s intended will to be done in civil society, and not only what He must do because we are uncooperative at times. We want everyone to honor God as He deserves. And if this happens anywhere on earth as we await the coming of Christ, those who experience it will have a foretaste of heaven.

Soon, and very soon, we will no longer need to hope for, pray about, or look forward to that ideal Soon, and very soon, Jesus will announce His arrival. He will firmly, and eternally establish His kingdom throughout the universe, and eventually eradicate the sin problem. All nations, kindreds, tongues, people, and heavenly beings will give Him the honor He deserves. “For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.” (Hebrews 10:37).

Sing unto the Lord a new song. Celebrate God’s favor and His coming kingdom.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
