This is devotional thought number 51 in our devotional series, “Essentials of Faith.” Our subject is: My Daily Work

Here’s the question for consideration: How is the universe supplied with all blessings?

“Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. The Lord upholdeth all that fall, And raiseth up all those that be bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon thee; And thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, And satisfiest the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all his ways, And holy in all his works.” (Psalm 145:13–17).

Many years ago, I learned about a belief system that suggested God indeed created all things and creatures, but then He left it all to continue without His direct intervention. Not only is this absurd, but it’s also disheartening and misrepresents the King of the universe. Our God cares. He’s actively involved. He’s our Provider. He’s the One who’s always listening to sincere prayers. He’s the One who makes certain the earth does not tip off its axis or run in reverse revolutions. He’s the One who makes certain the explosive gases that comprise the sun do not get out of control. He’s the One who keeps all living things alive until it’s time for them to pass off the scene for a season. He’s the One who feeds the little sparrow and gladdens the earth with rain.

What degraded view must one have of God when that one accuses Him of being a deadbeat dad? He did not birth the universe and then leave it to fend for itself. We may not understand all that He does as this world seems to be spiraling out of control, but all will revealed one day. And when it is, we will confess that we would not have had it any other way. Our God is involved, engaged, loving, and a wonderful Provider. One day soon, we will finally see Him face-to-face and begin to enjoy eternity with Him.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
