This is devotional thought number 52 in our devotional series, “Essentials of Faith.” Our subject is: My Daily Work

Here’s the question for consideration: Once I am receiving great blessings and the spirit of Christ, what will it be my joy to do?

“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.” (John 21:15–17).

When we reflect and reciprocate the fullness of heavenly love, among our top desires is to welcome others into a love relationship with God. Whenever we enjoy something, it is natural for us to share. When there's a sale on our favorite clothing items or new smartphone, it is quite natural to tell someone. When a new television show airs, many post a play-by-play in social media. When we’ve had the privilege of going on a vacation most share our pics and others live vicariously through our experiences. Do we the same with our God encounters? Do we share those with others too?

The great thing about genuine experiences with God, is that when we have them, nobody needs to convince us to share with others. This sharing is a natural outgrowth of our experience, much like our examples above; except the God experiences can change the receiver’s life forever!

When Jesus spoke to Peter about this from the love context, He was leading him through the corridors of his conscience. He well recalled his recent denial of Christ. He was well acquainted with the painful feelings that accompany those who have misrepresented the King we claimed to love with all our hearts. It was finally time to get his do-over. Peter surrendered his heart to God and committed to the fullness of God’s love, which would compel him to nurture, protect, and lead others in paths of righteousness. That is the outcome we all experience, who finally surrender our wills to God. It is our joy and pleasure to share what great things the Lord has done for us, so they will hopefully enter that experience too.—L. David Harris (www.DavidWritesaLot.com)
