Thoughts in Worship
Message Magazine's Online Devotional for Tuesday, October 9, 2018
This is devotional thought number 2 in our devotional series titled, “O For a Faith That Will Not Shrink.”
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1).
I have the title! Wait for it… Now, you’re curious. You want to know what I mean. Is it the title of a book? Am I a prize fighter who won the ameteur light heavyweight championship and now I have the title? Did I just receive the title deed to land in the hills of rural Jamaica? No. I have the title deed to the inheritance God has promised to all who keep faith in Him, and so do you, if you keep the faith.
Our theme text brilliantly underscores the nature and outcome of holy faith of which Jesus Christ is Author and Finisher, and His people are recipients. This kind of faith sees the track record of the Creator who cannot fail, and trusts that He will come through with His promises yet again. It looks through the portals of time and sees the end result of such faith - eternity in the kingdom of God. It claims and begins to experience now, what God has promised for the future. It waits for the private jet to show up on the tarmac fueled and ready to go before it sees the passenger list. It experiences years of marital bliss before he pops the question. It names the baby girl before you’re pregnant. It envisions healing while you’re in the hospital bed and the doctors have not even diagnosed you. This kind of faith claims the title to eternity while we exist in time. All of this expectancy is possible, because God always makes good on His promises; and this is especially so with those who keep the faith.
What then? Keep the faith! Ask God to give you the kind of faith that rejoices today for future victories, as though they have already occured. Ask Him to give you the kind of faith that knows in whom we believe. Then, trust that God will continue His stellar track record in your case. Remember, He always makes good on His promises.
If we are to develop shrink-resistant faith that will not fail when tested, we must claim the title deed to all of God’s great and precious promises even before we see the manifestation.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
