This is devotional thought number 4 in our devotional series titled, “O For a Faith That Will Not Shrink.”
“An evil man is rebellious to the core. He does not fear God, for he is too proud to recognize and give up his sin. The words he speaks are sinful and deceitful; he does not care about doing what is wise and right. He plans ways to sin while he lies in bed; he is committed to a sinful lifestyle; he does not reject what is evil. O Lord, your loyal love reaches to the sky; your faithfulness to the clouds. Your justice is like the highest mountains, your fairness like the deepest sea; you preserve mankind and the animal kingdom. How precious is your loyal love, O God! The human race finds shelter under your wings. They are filled with food from your house, and you allow them to drink from the river of your delicacies. For you are the one who gives and sustains life. Extend your loyal love to your faithful followers, and vindicate the morally upright!” (Psalm 36:1–10, NET).
Talk about a contrast! Evil people are thus because they are too proud to submit their character flaws to God! God is just and uplifts the humble. Evil people couldn't care less about doing what is wise and right. God’s immeasurable love reaches the distant span of the sky, and beyond. The wonder of this stark contrast between wicked people and the Creator is that it does not need to remain this way. Corrupt people can indeed be transformed by God’s loyal love and begin to manifest God-like faithfulness; as a result, He will vindicate them in the judgment.
How does one become transformed from hopeless sinner to holy saint? How does one abandon the sinful lifestyle that leads to eternal death and embrace the simplicity of life exemplifying the model character befitting a child of God? Faith! I know we have been throwing that word around lately, but here’s what I mean: Those who exercise the little measure of faith that God gives to all human beings will experience growth, in the same way, diligent physical exercise creates muscle growth and endurance.
If we are to develop a shrink-resistant faith that will not fail when tested, we must exercise the faith we already have, moving on from victory to victory, giving honor to God until Jesus comes.—L. David Harris (www.LDavidHarris.com)
